BEING WILLING AND OBEDIENT

*Audio Version*: http://bit.ly/293Wa2h

Isaiaha 1:19 'If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land' [KJV]

If a child is playing with his friends and then his parents send him on an errand, he will have to obey the call because they are his parents, but many times not with a willing heart. It is not enough just to obey God and follow His commands, but it is also important to have a willing heart while obeying.

Most believers obey the word of God simply because they do not want to go to hell. They are actually not willing in their obedience. That's why they can't get all the blessings and benefits that a believer should have.

David admonished Solomon to serve the Lord with a willing heart, for the Lord searches all hearts and imaginations of the thoughts. (See 1 Chron 28:9).

If you are a pastor called by God, you will not eat the good of the land if you are not willing in your obedience to the call. It is sad that some missionaries aren't willing to go to the places God is sending them to; they are only obedient because they have to. You can only eat the good of the land when you are both willing in heart and obedient.

Even as God gives us instructions from His word daily, we must be willing in heart as we obey. Only then can we eat the good of the land and be full partakers of the blessings that accompany the word.

Are you willing in heart in your service to Him? Search your heart. Unwillingness in obeying God comes from a heart that has been corrupted by the standards and deceitfulness of this world. Allowing the word wash your heart and change your desires and standards is the solution to this malady.

As you go into today, ask the Lord to give you a willing heart to obey Him in all things.

DWELLING IN CHRIST 4 (stream 2)

Eph 5:18-21
…but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. [KJV]

Pastor Felix enumerated to Segun some things he could do to stay filled with the spirit. He said Segun was to

1) Always Maintain a joyful countenance; singing songs to God

2) Always Maintain a mood of thankfulness to God at all times.

3) Strictly watch the words he said and avoid uttering words that were not seasoned with grace.

4) He was to watch the company he kept, and

5) He was to maintain a meek character before God and before his brethren.

Pastor Felix went on to explain these points one by one, but we shall not be able to look into them today.

Go into this day knowing that the flame of the Holy Ghost's fire in your heart must always be burning. Ask the Lord to teach you how to do this.

Prayer:

· Pick and song to sing; and then thank the Lord for bringing you to this day.

· Ask the Lord to help you control your tongue today; that the words you say will be edifying to the hearers.

· Thank the Lord because he will make this day a successful one. Amen

ETERNAL LIFE

Audio Version Link: http://bit.ly/292yxaN
1 John 2:25
Now this is the promise that he himself made to us: eternal life. [NET]

When Gbenga gave his life to Christ, it was like his life just began  because his old life was now a thing of the past. He now had the empowerment to live above his old habits and proclivities that made his life miserable. And he received healing from the incurable disease he was born with. "The Lord gave me a new life when I became born again. My old life gave way for a new superior life" Gbenga said.
Gbenga's testimony may appear really wowing, but that is how the Lord wants every Christian to receive the new life. Eternal life is in Christ Jesus, and Christ dwells in you through the Holy Spirit. This is the reason why baptism in the spirit is important for every Christian. You cannot fully enjoy eternal life if you are not baptized in the Holy Spirit. And if you are baptized, you need to stay filled.
Anyone filled with the Spirit will begin to experience eternal life. It is because of this life that you can cast of demons and heal the sick.

What then is eternal life? When the Bible speaks of eternal life, it refers to the gift of God that comes only “through Jesus Christ our Lord” (see Romans 6:23). This gift is the life quality that Jesus has. This life is superior to the human life. It makes you a new creation and makes it possible for you to be transformed into the image of Christ. Without eternal life in your spirit, transformation into the image of Christ is impossible. Every Christian is actually born again into eternal life. But not many nurture this life to let it dominate them.

Go into today asking the Lord to help you walk in His eternal life. If you are not born again, read the content of this webpage: http://bit.ly/1iTOmol

UNDERSTANDING GRACE 1 (stream 2)

Eph 5:5-6
5 For you can be confident of this one thing: that no person who is immoral, impure, or greedy (such a person is an idolater) has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. 6 Let nobody deceive you with empty words, for because of these things God's wrath comes on the sons of disobedience. [NET]

Cynthia: But Sis Faith, what you are doing is wrong, it is a sin before God. Don't you want to make heaven?

Faith: Sis Cynthia, you don't understand grace. Let me explain to you a dimension of grace. You see, Christ has already paid for all my sins; both past, present and future ones. I cannot be rejected because of my sins.

Cynthia: Hmm, really? Thank God for grace o. But my spirit is still not comfortable.

This conversation between Cynthia and Faith reflects a misguided idea that some have about the grace of God. God's grace is the license we have to God's kingdom, but it is not a license for continuing to sin. He that is born of God does not continue to sin because he has received a new nature that Loves God and hates sin.

Go into today determined to walk in God's new nature that you have received. Remember that the blood of Jesus cleanses you from every sin and presents you Holy before God. Do not let your garments be stained but stay out of all spiritual filthiness.

Prayer: Thank you Lord for your grace. I pray you help me always walk by grace and please you every day. Amen

DO YOU NOT KNOW? 1

Audio Version with Audio Bible: http://bit.ly/294kzsK

Rom 6:3 [ESV]
Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?

In harmony with Paul's remarkable exegesis on the grace of God and justification by faith in Romans Chapter 4 and 5, he continued in Romans 6 to show the connection between justification and sanctification. The Chapter began thus: What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life (Rom 6:1-4).

As believers, spiritual knowledge is as vital as grace, the kind of knowledge we talking about is not of our reasoning or by our understanding but by the Holy Spirit (see 1 Cor 2:12-13). Baptism is a very important ordinance commanded by our Lord Jesus Christ (see Matt 28:19 and Mark 16:16). But its import goes beyond the physical immersion in water. It is symbolic of our identification with Christ in his death and resurrection. The fullness of this identification is by the knowledge imparted to us by the Holy Spirit. As we submit ourselves to the Holy Spirit, He brings us to the point where we realize that on account of the death of Christ, we cannot continue in sin. And by reason of His resurrection, we can live new lives defined by the word of God and manifested by the Holy Spirit in Holiness – lives set apart and pleasing to God.

Go into today asking the Lord to help you receive this knowledge of a new life in Christ Jesus.

DWELLING IN CHRIST 3 (stream 2)

Eph 5:18
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit [KJV]

(Continued from Yesterday) Pastor Felix began to explain to Segun that one of the greatest hindrances to being filled with the Spirit is fleshly indulgences and excesses; "anything that you over-do that is not spiritually edifying can hinder your being filled with the Spirit". He explained that getting drunk with wine was a typical example, other examples included over eating, over sleeping, talking too much, lusts, etc.

Segun told Pastor Felix that he had been watching too many movies recently and the movies were not spiritually edifying.

Pastor Felix also went on to explain to Segun that being filled with the Spirit was something the Holy Spirit always wanted for us, but we are the ones who decide whether or not we will continue to be filled by the Spirit. We decide by the things we avoid and the things we do. That that was why the Bible says ‘be filled with the Spirit’. It is something you can consciously control. He went ahead to teach Segun certain things he should do to stay filled with the Holy Spirit (to be continued).

Go into today determining to cut out fleshly excesses and indulgences from your life. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you by supplying the grace to do this.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, please help me to be filled with your Spirit at all times. Amen

GROW IN GRACE

Audio Version with Audio Bible: http://bit.ly/28WVcbY

2 Peter 3:18 KJV
But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Our salvation is by Grace from start to finish. (Eph 2:8-9) What Salvation affords us is access to Grace. Rom 5:2 KJV says '...we have access by faith into this grace...' We are however, supposed to grow in that Grace as we read in our main text. One major way we grow in grace is through knowledge. 2 Pet 1:2 says 'Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord'.

It is important that we define the kind of knowledge that multiplies our experience in the grace of Christ Jesus. It is not the 'knowledge about our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ' but 'knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ'. You may know so much about someone and yet not know the person at all.

Our knowledge of Christ is our intimacy with Him. 2 Cor 3:8 says we are being transformed when we behold His glory with an open face. This can only be a personal experience. You cannot behold Christ through someone else's face or lens. Even when we hear messages, we need to internalize them. That way, our knowledge of Christ is personal and unique.

How have you grown in your knowledge of Christ? What are your unique landmarks in your walk with Him? He longs to release special strengths into your spirit through those personal moments.

Go into the day, seeking to touch the heart of Jesus in study, prayer or in relating with other people.

DWELLING IN CHRIST 2 (stream 2)

John 15:5
"…for without Me you can do nothing” [NKJV]

After Segun suffered some affliction because of demonic attacks, he sought help from place to place. Pastor Felix had taught him the importance of being baptized in the Holy Spirit. Segun was now properly enlightened and could see the need for the Holy Spirit’s baptism. He saw that the presence of the Holy Spirit in His life was the solution to His problems.

One Wednesday evening after communion service, Segun received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Pastor Felix had laid hands on Him earlier and he began to speak in tongues uncontrollably for several hours. At that moment, Segun knew he received total deliverance and the word of God became alive in him. He now felt closeness to God that he had never felt in His life. He felt lighter in his spirit.

As some days went bye, Segun discovered that his fire appeared to diminish; he was no longer feeling the presence of God like he felt that Wednesday; he was now beginning to feel ordinary again. He went to Pastor Felix and explained to Him. Pastor Felix immediately understood what Segun was talking about and began to teach Him some truths: “you need to learn how to stay filled with the Spirit at all times, it begins with an acknowledgement that your life is empty without the presence of the Holy Spirit; that without Him, you can do nothing” Pastor Felix opened Ephesians 5 and began to explain from verse 18 how to stay filled with the Spirit (to be continued).

Go into today knowing that God’s presence is the air that your spirit breaths. Without Him, you can do nothing. The more you thirst and seek His presence, the more you receive.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, please teach me to stay filled with your presence always, in Jesus name. Amen.

SPIRITUAL RIGHT TO EXERT AUTHORITY

Audio Version/YBP Audio Bible: http://bit.ly/28UY5KF

1 John 2:3

3 Now by this we know that we have come to know God: if we keep his commandments.[NET]
Orji wondered why he would pray, fast, and still struggle to cast out a demon that Emaka wouldn’t even need to strain his voice to cast out. He came to realize that the reason for his little spiritual authority was because he wasn’t properly aligned to Christ authority.
When you read a Bible verse like today's main text, you may wonder why in the New Testament, so much emphasis is still made on commandments. 'Are we not now under grace and no more under the law?' Yes, we are under grace, but being under grace does not mean being lawless. It means the grace of God empowers us to obey God's law that He has now written upon our hearts because of the new covenant (see Heb 10:16). What this means is that a Christian is someone who is under God's authority. He is not a 'free moral agent' but is under the absolute authority of the Lord Jesus.
Any man that is not living under authority has no spiritual right to exert authority. The devil can now only exert authority over members of his household. All authority has been given to our Lord, and there is no more authority left. If you must exert spiritual authority, that authority must be this same authority that the Lord has. You cannot exert this authority if you are not operating under it. This is the real reason why demons do not respect some Christians. Demons do not respect people who have not actively aligned with the only spiritual authority that can cast them out. You align with this authority by living your life under the authority of Christ.
Go into today asking the Lord to help you properly align under His authority (read 1 Pet 5:6).

DWELLING IN CHRIST 1 (Stream 2)

John 15:5
"I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. [NKJV]

Three years after Segun had accepted Christ as Lord and Savior, he still was not baptized in the Holy Spirit. Unfortunately, this did not bother him because the only difference he believed it made was that it caused people to speak in tongues; something he didn’t particularly look forward to. But Segun couldn’t be more wrong. He was lacking the fullness of His new life because he was never filled with the Holy Spirit.

Many times, Segun would wonder what people who prayed for up to an hour were saying for so long, he would get bored and even sleep off if he tried to pray for more than ten minutes. Segun never enjoyed fellowship with the Lord because he was not yet filled with the Holy Spirit. This was the primary reason why Segun experienced so many demonic attacks.

The reason why many Christians do not enjoy the full benefits of their salvation is because they are not dwelling in Christ. The thing about dwelling Christ is that He will also dwell in you, and He dwells in you through His Holy Spirit. He lives in you that you may live in Him. Anyone who is baptized in the Holy Spirit and stays filled with the Holy Spirit will experience this.

Go into today determining to be filled with the Holy Spirit at all times. If you are a Christian and you are not yet baptized in the Holy Spirit, it is time for you to make this your top priority.

Prayer: thank you Lord because you are my baptizer. Heavenly father, I ask for a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit, in Jesus name I pray. Amen

STANDING IN THE GOSPEL

Audio Version: http://bit.ly/293mpYr

1 Corinthians 15:1 [KJV]
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand

When someone opens his heart to receive the gospel of Christ, it is important for him to stand, else he will fall away. This is where the work of a teacher is needed so as to establish the new believer in Christ. But many teachers themselves need to understand what it means to stand in the Gospel.

Standing in the Gospel is to stand in the grace of Jesus Christ. (See Rom 5:2, 1 Pet 5:12). It means the believer continues in the same grace that got him saved in the first place. When a believer backslides, what happened is that he resorted to his own efforts. He has fallen from grace. (Gal 5;4).

Any message that is not rooted in the grace of Christ (no matter how spiritual) is at best a 'good message' and not the Gospel (See Gal 1:6-7). Many Christians are sound in scriptures, but unfortunately do not understand the Gospel. When we place our human effort above the finished works of Christ, we run the risk of falling from Grace. Such Christians make the cross unnecessary and Christ is of no effect in them.

Standing in the Gospel also means walking in the Spirit; having no confidence whatsoever in the flesh. (Rom 8:1, Gal 3:1-3). This is the spirit that must guide all our teachings, else we breed struggling Christians who rise and fall too frequently.

Go into today with this understanding. Ask God to give you the word of His grace as you tell someone the Good News.

RECEIVING THE GOSPEL

Audio Version/YBP Audio Bible: http://bit.ly/28SPGZ6

1 Corinthians 15:1[KJV]
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand

The work of Salvation is done through the Holy Spirit from start to finish. Our primary duty in this process as believers is to preach the gospel. We have very little control over whether the hearer receives our message or not. Of course, we can make ourselves more acceptable and make our message more presentable. Just as the Holy Spirit works through the believer to preach, He works in the unbeliever to receive.

Receiving the gospel begins from hearing. When a believer attempts to preach the gospel, he should at least, make the unbeliever hear (See Rom 10:14). The decision to listen and receive is not in the hand of the preacher but the hearer. See how the Lord Himself puts it in Mat 10:14 '... whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet'. What the preacher can do is to pray that the Holy Spirit does His work in them so they can receive the gospel.

To receive the gospel is to believe that Jesus Christ, the only begotten of the Father, is Savior and Lord. (See John1:12).

Go into today with the decision to preach the gospel to someone. Pray for that person in advance.

Prayer: Lord, open the hearts of the unsaved all over the world to the gospel of Your salvation. Amen.

JESUS OUR ADVOCATE

Audio Version/ YBP Audio Bible: http://bit.ly/28ObPli

1 John 2:[NET]
(My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin.) But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous One

God's will for every Christian is that we sin not. He gives us His words, so that through them, grace is imparted into our spirits. When we receive the words God sends to us through His servants, we receive grace that empowers us not to sin.

In the case of the original people to whom Apostle John wrote the above Bible text, he gave them certain teachings to establish their faith and their righteousness.

Note that there are two most necessary things that protect our spirits from spiritual attacks. The first is the breastplate of righteousness; the second is the shield of faith. Righteousness gets its standards from truth: the belt of truth (See Eph 6:14,16). When we let the righteousness of God guide our thought processes, it would be impossible for the devil to use his most sophisticated weapon against our spirits. That weapon is called guilt. When we let faith fill our hearts, it will be impossible for the devil to use his most dangerous weapon against us. That weapon is called fear.

An advocate usually defends us using words and methods that we cannot use. Jesus is our advocate. He speaks for us against the accusations of Satan. He Himself became our sacrifice and took the punishment for our sins. The devil is always trying to get us punished for the sins we commit. But Jesus defends us because he took the punishment already.

As you go into today, remember that it is easier for an advocate to defend someone who does not make a habit of intentionally committing a crime.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to direct you to His words that will help you grow in faith and grace, in Jesus name. Amen.

PREACH THE GOSPEL

Audio Version/YBP Audio Bible: http://bit.ly/28LEojN

1 Corinthians 15:1[KJV]
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand

The gospel of salvation must be preached. Preaching is the medium of delivering the Good News of Redemption to the world. It is the proclamation of our conviction in the saving power of the Lord Jesus Christ. Many times, it is confused with teaching. Teaching requires expertise, preaching does not. 1 Cor 1:21 says God saves people through the 'foolishness of preaching'.

Teaching draws more from knowledge, preaching from conviction and passion. Every believer is called to preach, teaching is a special calling to the body of Christ.

Preaching is what gets unbelievers saved, teaching is what establishes the believer in Christ.

Of course, it is difficult to fully separate the two, and it is not to rate one above another. But essentially, preaching is basic and we are encouraged to do it 'in and out of season' (1 Tim 4:2). In fact, Paul said preaching, for him was a 'necessity'. (1 Cor 9:15).

If the gospel must spread, every believer should be involved.

Find an opportunity to preach the gospel today.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, make me a laborer in your harvest that I may be ever willing to preach your good news. Amen.

IF WE CONFESS OUR SINS

Devotional/YBP Audio Bible: http://bit.ly/28JKxx8

1 John 1:9 [NET]
But if we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous, forgiving us our sins and cleansing us from all unrighteousness.

There was something that Jide did and he immediately lost his inner peace and Joy in the Lord. He knew that this loss of spiritual joy meant his spiritual strength was diminishing (because the Joy of the Lord is your strength). Therefore, he 'confessed' his sin to the Lord and expected to be cleansed from the unrighteousness that seemed to hinder his free access to God’s grace.

Unfortunately, after confessing his sin, nothing changed. He still felt as guilty as before, and he knew something was wrong. The problem was that he hadn’t truly accepted that what he did was wrong, so he wasn’t really repenting.

When the Bible says 'if we confess our sins', many think confessing a sin means telling the Lord about it, but it means more than that. Romans 10:9 also talks about confession. It says 'if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus..., you will be saved'. Confession in this context means acknowledging and accepting that Jesus is Lord. That He is the owner and controller of all things, including your life.

Confessing your sin to the Lord, therefore means acknowledging before God that what you did is a sin. This acknowledgment brings true repentance. Confessing your sin does not mean informing God about it, He already knows about it. It is about acknowledging and accepting that that thing you did is wrong. It is about repenting from doing it.

Sin always releases a spiritually poisonous substance against your spirit. This poisonous substance ultimately brings death, for the wages of sin is death. That is why when we confess our sins, God does not only forgive us, He cleanses us from this spiritually toxic substance called unrighteousness. This substance is also what causes people to sin again and again.

Go into today asking the Lord to help you have a more robust relationship with Him.

CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP

Audio Version/YBP Audio Bible Here: http://bit.ly/1PBrHXw

Heb 10:25 [NLT]
And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

When John moved to Las Vegas, it was quite hard for him to find true Christian brethren in his environment that he could fellowship with. He knew he couldn’t thrive as a Christian without fellowship, so he decided to start one. He prayed to the Lord and fasted to seek His face for grace to make disciples in his community. The first person John preached to was the newspaper delivery boy in his office. The next person to whom John preached was an Arab who had many questions about life and salvation. He gave his life to Christ and started learning the word of God from John. They met regularly to pray and study the word.

In two months, nine people now met regularly in John’s house to pray and share the word. Three of them were already Christians, but John did not know them until he started a fellowship in his house. They all grew tremendously under God.

If you find yourself in a place where you don’t find sound Christian fellowship, it might be an indication for you to start one. Fellowship is when brethren come together regularly to pray and study the word of God, share in love, break bread together, and are accountable to each other, under the authority of Christ.

As you go into today, remember that sound Christian fellowship is necessary for your spiritual growth. Decide to network with people of like passion.

Prayer: Lord, please direct my path to people who would help me grow. Amen.
