POWER OF SEDUCTION

🔊Devotional Audio Link☞ http://bit.ly/audio1139

Rev 2:18-20
18 "To the angel of the church in Thyatira write the following: "This is the solemn pronouncement of the Son of God, the one who has eyes like a fiery flame and whose feet are like polished bronze: 19 I know your deeds: your love, faith, service, and steadfast endurance. In fact, your more recent deeds are greater than your earlier ones. 20 But I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, and by her teaching deceives my servants to commit sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols.

Kemi: why is that man still allowed to minister in the church? He clearly is not fit for that.

Pamela: But he is an anointed man of God. He works signs and wonders, and he sees visions.

Kemi: Didn’t you say he was the one responsible for Dorin’s pregnancy?

Pamela: Yes, but you know people can make mistakes.

Kemi: this one is more than ‘mistake’. This same man was the one who wanted me to be his girlfriend last month.

The church in Thyatira appeared to be doing everything right. They were full of good deeds and very committed to the work of God. But there was something wrong going on in secret, and the Lord pointed it out to them. There was a ‘prophetess’ among them who was very corrupt. They knew of this but still allowed her to minister.

You see, when a person who is demonized is allowed to continue ministering in a Christian assembly, he/she would easily transmit his spirit to the congregation. Many people in that congregation may find themselves having the same weaknesses as that of the minister. It is correctly said that the leaders’ sin is the leading sin.

Go into today being very careful not to expose yourself to any minister who has known questionable character. If you are a minister, remember that your accurate walk with God is no more just about you alone.

PECULIAR

🔊Devotional Audio Link☞ http://bit.ly/audio1138

Rev 2:17
17 The one who has an ear had better hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers, I will give him some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and on that stone will be written a new name that no one can understand except the one who receives it.

Femi, Innocent, Emeka and Stanley used to meet to pray and fellowship together. As they began to advance in ministry, it became clear that the devil was trying to sow the seed of envy within them. But the Lord gave them spiritual understanding to see that no one could do another’s work if they all remained aligned to the purpose of God.

One great gift God has given to us is individuality and peculiarity. There is no one in the whole of eternity that is exactly like you. This means there is no one that can be you, and God made it that way. There is a name you have in God’s kingdom that no other person can have; there is a portion you have in the kingdom that is peculiar to you.

One thing we can see from today’s Bible text is that those who overcome will be rewarded and God will retain our peculiarity in rewarding us. He would not just throw over a blanket reward for everyone. Our relationship with Christ would still be as personal as it is right now when we see Him face to face.

Go into today remembering that Christ Jesus does not just see you as a part of the whole body, He knows you by name and wants to have a personal relationship with you both now and for the whole of eternity.

PRAYER: Thank the Lord for His great love He has lavished upon you. Thank Him for your peculiarity and ask Him to help you use it to adorn His kingdom according to His plan.

SOUND TEACHING

🔊Get Devotional Audio for more explanations ☞ http://bit.ly/audio1137

Rev 2:15-17
15 In the same way, there are also some among you who follow the teaching of the Nicolaitans. 16 Therefore, repent! If not, I will come against you quickly and make war against those people with the sword of my mouth.

I have heard some who suggest that the teachings of the Apostle Paul were not consistent with that of Christ. Throughout Church history, there have been conscious efforts from the kingdom of darkness to cast aspersion on the teachings of Paul because they form a very great part of sound Christian doctrine.

Notice that the Lord points out false doctrines by identifying those who started practicing and/or teaching them (Balaam and the Nicolaitans).
If it is true that the teachings of the Apostle Paul were not consistent with that of Christ, Jesus would have easily pointed this out to the churches, particularly the one in Ephesus because we know that this church had great exposure to the teachings of Paul. But instead we see that in the case of the Ephesians, it wasn’t their doctrine that was the problem. As a matter of fact, they were very sound in that regard and were immune to the false doctrines that pervaded the early churches (see Rev 2:2, 6).

The church in Pergamum had a problem with false doctrines, and we see the Lord telling them to REPENT. A generation of Christians who have been taught to never again see the need to repent is one that is being deceived by Satan.

Go into today remembering that what you believe is very powerful indeed. The devil works overtime to weaken the church by introducing false teachings. Be careful to test every ‘new doctrine’ with the word and Spirit of Christ. Ask the Lord to help you always walk in a manner pleasing to Him (Col 1:10).

THE WAY OF BALAAM 3

🔊Devotional Audio Link☞ http://bit.ly/audio1136

Rev 2:14 [NET]
14 But I have a few things against you: You have some people there who follow the teaching of Balaam, who instructed Balak to put a stumbling block before the people of Israel so they would eat food sacrificed to idols and commit sexual immorality.

When Desmond got back to the city, he started attending another church because his experience in the village had opened his eyes to some realities. For the first time in his Christian life, he stopped running after ‘men of God’ that have ‘power’ but started seeking for where he could hear the word of God, experience the power of God, and grow spiritually. But the first church assembly he started attending seemed to be great in the word, but filled with lasciviousness and sexual immorality.

We have seen from the study of the letter to the church in Pergamum that if Satan cannot weaken people’s faith using external methods like persecutions, he tries to destroy them internally by introducing false teachings that make them incur the judgment Christ (see Rev 2:15). We can also deduce that the way of Balaam and that of the Nicolaitans would seek to trivialize lasciviousness and sexual immorality among Christians.

One of the ways you will identify a false doctrine is through the written word of God. Most, if not all false teachings will have scriptural backings, but if your understanding of one scripture makes the word of God contradict itself in several other scriptures, it is your understanding of the word that is not correct.

The most dangerous thing that can happen to a Christian is if he starts feeding on false doctrines and does not know it. Many false teachings would usually end up leading people to lasciviousness and sexual immorality.

As you go into today, determine to separate yourself from doctrines that make it easier for you to play with the idea of immorality. Ask the Lord to deliver you from every teaching and doctrine that is false.

THE WAY OF BALAAM 2

🔊Devotional Audio Link☞ http://bit.ly/audio1135

Rev 2:14 [NET]
14 But I have a few things against you: You have some people there who follow the teaching of Balaam, who instructed Balak to put a stumbling block before the people of Israel so they would eat food sacrificed to idols and commit sexual immorality.

Desmond was tired of the way things were going in his life. He decided he wanted a positive turnaround in the New Year. His mother took him to the house of a powerful prophet in their village. This prophet preached holiness and prayed in the name of Jesus. But it didn’t take time for Desmond to notice that the prophet used other methods for power. Desmond also observed that this prophet had a secret harem.
Desmond knew that he would be getting into more spiritual trouble if he went back to that prophet.

That prophet is a good example of one who walks in the way of Balaam. Those who walk in the way of Balaam claim to speak for God, but they also practice divination and use unclean spirits to perform magic. What propels them is the love of money.

It was clear that even though Balaam could speak with God, he never really loved God because those who love God would love God's people. But Balaam was willing to destroy God’s people ( see Num 22:36-24:25 for the story of Balaam).

It is impossible for a person to love God and love mammon at the same time. Those who walk in the way of Balaam love mammon and cannot love God. Many of such ‘prophets’ will eventually resort to demonic resources in order to stay relevant to their gullible followers. A person who loves God can never do that.

As you go into today, remember to be careful who ministers to you. Do not let the love of money ever enter your heart. One way to make sure you never love and serve mammon is by serving God with your money. Ask the Lord to help you do this.

THE WAY OF BALAAM 1

🔊Devotional Audio Link☞ http://bit.ly/audio1134

Rev 2:12-14[NET]
12 "To the angel of the church in Pergamum write the following:
"This is the solemn pronouncement of the one who has the sharp double-edged sword: 13 'I know where you live - where Satan's throne is. Yet you continue to cling to my name and you have not denied your faith in me, even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was killed in your city where Satan lives. 14 But I have a few things against you: You have some people there who follow the teaching of Balaam, who instructed Balak to put a stumbling block before the people of Israel so they would eat food sacrificed to idols and commit sexual immorality.

Satan is not omnipresent but can only be in one place at the same time. By the time Jesus wrote this letter to the church in Pergamum, Pergamum was the city where Satan lived. There was a magnificent pagan temple on the top of the tallest mountain in Pergamum, and sacrifices were offered to Satan on that mountain every day.

That city was infested with strong demonic activity, but that little church there was stronger than the gigantic Satanic temple if they continued to walk accurately. Satan had initially tried to destroy the faith of the Christians in the church by using his followers to persecute and kill them, but it did not work; they did not deny the faith (see Rev 2:13).

By the time the Lord wrote this letter to the church in Pergamum, the devil had changed tactics from attacking the church with persecutions from without to now seducing the church with error from within. Balam’s teaching instructed Balak to seduce the people of God into iniquity so that they would lose God’s covering and be destroyed.

Go into today remembering that the greatest threat to your security is not if Satan himself lives in your city or neighborhood. It is if you allow in ‘new doctrines’ that continually reduce your hatred and dread for sin.

KEEP ON BELIEVING

🔊Devotional Audio Link☞ http://bit.ly/audio1133

Luke 1:45 [NET]
45 And blessed is she who believed that what was spoken to her by the Lord would be fulfilled."

The angel appeared to Mary and told her that she would conceive [while still a virgin] and give birth to a male child who will have an eternal kingdom.

This was hard for Mary to believe. The angel went on to convince her of the miracle power of God by telling her about Elizabeth who had recently conceived in old age (see Luke 2:36). Everyone knew it was medically impossible for Elizabeth and Zachariah to have children anymore because they were both very old. But the word of the Lord came to them, and Elizabeth was now pregnant.

Mary believed the word of the Lord and said: "Yes, I am a servant of the Lord; let this happen to me according to your word."(Luke 1:38)

Before Mary could conceive, she had to believe first. And when she believed she spoke [in agreement with her faith].

There is someone reading this devotional who the Lord has spoken great things concerning. You have heard these things and believed them, but your faith is now becoming weak because the things spoken are not happening yet. God’s word to you today is: Keep on believing; fight the good fight of faith. Do not let your faith ever waver, but keep speaking words of faith. The word of God [His truth] is our shield and attack weapon against the forces of unbelief (see Psalm 91:4b, Eph 6:17).

Go into today knowing that the Lord will do the great things He has spoken concerning you. He has not forgotten.
Hab 2:3: For the message [you received] is a witness to what is decreed; it gives reliable testimony about how matters will turn out. Even if the message is not fulfilled right away, wait patiently; for it will certainly come to pass - it will not arrive late.

WHAT THE SPIRIT SAYS TO THE CHURCHES

🔊Devotional Audio Link☞ http://bit.ly/audio1132

Rev 2:11 [KJV]
11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

Dara was reading the Bible one evening when she saw where Jesus was commending the saints in Ephesus because they tested those who came into their midst and claimed to be apostles, but were not. Immediately, she knew that the check she felt in her spirit concerning a particular ‘woman of God’ was in order. This woman Apostle claimed to have died and received certain messages from the underworld the church. Dara immediately started to try her ‘new doctrines’ with the truth of God’s word. She found them to contradict the truth of God’s word concerning salvation.

Dara was delivered from the web of error that caught many honest Christians in her city and led them down the path of condemnation and failing faith. She didn’t fall for the error because she heard what the Spirit was saying to the churches and did not shy away from testing to see if new teachings were true to God’s word.

The letter to the seven churches addressed real life situations that those churches faced. The church of today also faces similar situations in different appearances. It would be wise for every Christian to hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches through those letters and learn vital lessons from them.

Go into today remembering that you are an overcomer through the Lord Jesus Christ. As long as you keep your gaze on Christ and depend on Him, you will always overcome.

FEAR NOT!

🔊Devotional Audio Link☞ http://bit.ly/audio1131
Rev 2:10-11 [NET]
10 Do not be afraid of the things you are about to suffer. The devil is about to have some of you thrown into prison so you may be tested, and you will experience suffering for ten days. Remain faithful even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown that is life itself.

The Church in Smyrna was accurate. They were a very serious threat to the kingdom of darkness in that territory. Because of this, the devil stirred up persecution against them using the people under his control. The battle was all about their faith and nothing else. The devil wanted to weaken their faith so that they would no longer be such a great threat.

Every operation of the devil against children of God is for the singular purpose of weakening their faith. One of the easiest ways faith is weakened is when fear is allowed in.

The devil persecuted the church in Smyrna because he wanted to bring fear on them and see if he could weaken their faith. Jesus knew that as long as their faith was not weakened, they would overcome and the devil would ultimately lose the battle for that territory. Jesus empowers them not to be afraid.

If people in that church were killed with their faith intact, their spiritual lampstands [in that territory] would still be intact and continue burning the light of salvation. This means in the future, that territory would have no choice but to bow to Christ. And this would be to the credit of the people that kept the fire burning. They would receive the crown of life for this.

Go into today remembering that one of the easiest ways faith is weakened is when fear is allowed in.
Ask the Lord to strengthen you and deliver you from all fear.

HOW DOES CHRIST SEE YOU?

🔊Devotional Audio Special Healing Prayer ☞ http://bit.ly/audio1130

Rev 2:8-9 [NET]
8 "To the angel of the church in Smyrna write the following:
"This is the solemn pronouncement of the one who is the first and the last, the one who was dead, but came to life: 9 'I know the distress you are suffering and your poverty (but you are rich). I also know the slander against you by those who call themselves Jews and really are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.

As it was with many of the other churches that time, the church in Smyrna faced some very bitter opposition from Jews in that city. Many Jews believed that Christianity was a perversion of their faith. But the truth is that before God, anyone who believes and is baptized is now regarded as the real Jew(God's people).

From the letter to Smyrna, we can see that the opposition generated by the unbelieving Jews was orchestrated by Satan. Jesus called their Synagogue the synagogue of Satan. We can learn here from Jesus that real Jews (those to whom the blessing have been given) are not those who have the flesh and blood descent but those of spiritual descent (see Rom 2:28). The church is the spiritual Israel; the people of God on the earth.

Another thing we can learn here is that even though financially speaking, the Church at Smyrna may have appeared poor, they were rich in the sight of Christ. This means they commanded great spiritual authority and honor in heaven. And in the coming everlasting kingdom, these people would be really rich. Not everyone in the kingdom would be as great as them. It happened that everything they suffered for Christ translated to great eternal wealth and power for them.

Go into today remembering that what is most important in life is the way Jesus sees you; your state in the kingdom of God. Also remember that every promise of God to Israel applies to you if you believe in Christ Jesus.

THE KEY TO OVERCOMING

🔊Devotional Audio Link☞ http://bit.ly/audio1129

Rev 2:7[NET]
7 The one who has an ear had better hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers, I will permit him to eat from the tree of life that is in the paradise of God.

Apart from the fact that Fado was attacked by disturbing dreams calculated to weaken his faith and confidence in Christ, he saw real opposition from his family members who were unbelievers. He knew that he needed daily strength from the Lord to overcome the oppositions sent against him from the kingdom of darkness. But he realized that the more he focused on his challenges and tried to overcome them, he lost the battle. But the more he focused on Christ [His finished work and His kingdom], he won.

In today’s Bible text, we see an important phrase Christ repeats to all the other churches: ‘the one who conquers’. This indicates that there would be oppositions that the Christian would have to conquer. These oppositions come from his flesh (manifesting in lust, greed and pride), and from [people in] the world under the control of Satan (manifesting in persecutions, oppositions, temptations, etc.).

God says we are more than conquerors through our Lord Jesus Christ (see Rom 8:37). The key to conquering is abiding in Christ and letting Him rule your life as Lord of your life. Our victory is through Christ and not through our own efforts. You let this happen by allowing Christ’s spirit and word dwell in you richly. Spend more time thinking about Christ and meditating on His word.

We will always conquer if we abide in Christ and keep our gaze and focus constantly on Him.

Go into today remembering that the more you focus on your challenges, the bigger and stronger they will become. But the more you focus on Christ, the bigger and stronger you will become, and you will overcome.

WHY HE CAME

 🔊Devotional Audio Link☞ http://bit.ly/audio1128

Isaiah 9:2 [KJV]
“The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.”

In the words of the psalmist, “Remember your covenant promises, for the land is full of darkness and violence.” (Ps. 70:20, NLT). If you look at the account of the creation in Genesis 1:2, “…the earth was empty, a formless mass cloaked in darkness…” We are told in 1 John 5:19 that the world around us is under the power and control of the evil one. You see, the devil rules through ignorance and darkness. The only cure to darkness is introducing light. Once there is light, the power of darkness comes to an end.

Dear friend, Jesus came into this world to break the power of the devil. He came to bring light to those that lived and walked in darkness. He came to rescue you and I from the kingdom of darkness, a kingdom of violence, cruelty, and wickedness into the kingdom of light. You see, the only way to benefit from this beautiful gift is by opening the door of your heart and welcoming Jesus to be both savior and Lord of your heart. If you welcome Jesus, the source of light into your heart and life, He will make you a light in this dark world.

Dear friend, receive that light into your life today, then go out there and brighten up the corner where you will find yourself.

TEST MINISTREIS

🔊Devotional Audio Link☞ http://bit.ly/audio1127

Rev 2:6 [NET]
6 But you do have this going for you: You hate what the Nicolaitans practice - practices I also hate.
Also read Rev 2:1-5

Chidi was quite confused concerning a new ministry that recently came to town. The prophet was very charismatic, and he performed miracles. But each time Chidi wanted to go there, he felt a check in his spirit. Chidi later observed that that ministry had not succeeded in raising one single disciple of Jesus in the city. The ministry was rather full of cheerleaders whose lives were no different from that of unbelievers. It was clear to Chidi that the fruits of that ministry was not consistent with that of Christ.

One notable point in the letter to the church in Ephesus is that Jesus was pleased that they were not gullible to false apostles that came to them (see Rev 2:2). They had the attitude of testing teachers and doctrines. Because of this attitude, they were not easily given to false teachings and practices such as the one mentioned in today’s Biblical text.

Jesus loves it when His people test spirits and try doctrines (see 1 John 4:1). Christians are not to be babes tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine.

Jesus has given us a number of tools with which to test teachers, prophets and doctrines.

Fruits (Matt 7:16): The fruit of a person's life is his Character. The fruit of a ministry is the character of its followers. If a minister's life does not manifest righteousness, such a minister should be avoided. If a ministry has failed to raise true disciples of Christ, it is an indication that something is terribly wrong.

Go into today knowing that Jesus is pleased when you don’t just swallow every new doctrine that comes along, but rigorously try and test them with His word.

YOUR EAR GATES

🔊Devotional Audio Link☞ http://bit.ly/audio1126
Mark 4:24 [AMP]
“And He said to them, Be careful what you are hearing. The measure [of thought and study] you give [to the truth you hear] will be the measure [of virtue and knowledge] that comes back to you--and more [besides] will be given to you who hear.”

The verse of scripture under consideration today is rendered in king James version this way “…Take heed what ye hear..”. To ‘take heed’ means to pay special attention, ponder, vigorously contemplate on, or carefully consider. To ‘hear’ means to hearken, or give audience. In other words, carefully consider what you give audience. So friend, what do you hear? What do you do with the truth that you hear? The things you hear or listen to will greatly impact your life. What you hear can build up or cripple your faith. Faith is built when you hear the word of God. Doubt and unbelief is also built when you listen to negative faith inhibiting words.

We are surrounded by bad news; from the moment you awaken till the time you go back to bed, most of the things you will hear especially from the media will be mostly negative. So how do we combat this surge and invasion of our minds by negative things? Can I suggest that in the midst of the negative reports, deliberately and consciously give your attention to the truth. The facts are enormous, and mostly negative; but the truth is that Jesus is still Lord. Turn your attention to God especially when the negative media is contending for it. Use the word of God as a yardstick to measure what you hear, discard the lies and cling to the truth.

The measure of virtue and knowledge that comes back to you is dependent on the measure of thought and study you give to the truth you hear.

Prayer: Ask that God will give you the grace to give attention to the truth of His word.

SEASONED WITH FIRE

🔊Devotional Audio Link☞ http://bit.ly/audio1125

Mark 9:49-50 [NKJV]
“For everyone will be seasoned with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt. Salt is good, but if the salt loses it’s flavour, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.”

The word ‘seasoned’ from the original texts means purified, tested, refined. Jesus teaches us here that everyone will go through this testing by fire at some point. The message Bible puts it this way “Everyone’s going through a refining fire sooner or later.” Everyone living on the earth will be tried at some point, but Jesus has promised to keep us if we keep His word. (Rev. 3:10).

The purpose of the fire is not to kill us, but to refine us. Fire purifies. God perfects His servants from the furnace of affliction (see Isaiah 48:10).

So, the question is, what will sustain us in the furnace? You see, God has made provisions for us to survive the furnace. Isaiah 43:1-2. God has called you by name, He has laid claims on you, and you belong to Him. He has given you His word, and our God can never lie. He won’t allow you to go through the fire alone; He promised to be with you. Dear Christian, whatever you are going through right now, I want you to know that Jesus is not just the fourth man in the fire, He went ahead of you into the furnace. You are not alone.

Go into today knowing that it is God’s word that will preserve you in the fiery trial. It is His presence that will keep you. He is bringing out the best in you.

LOVE WAXING COLD

🔊Get Audio Version☞ http://bit.ly/audio1124

Rev 2:3-5[NET]
3 I am also aware that you have persisted steadfastly, endured much for the sake of my name, and have not grown weary. 4 But I have this against you: You have departed from your first love! 5 Therefore, remember from what high state you have fallen and repent! Do the deeds you did at the first; if not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place - that is, if you do not repent.

Because of the bad experiences Sandra had in her relationship with a Christian brother, her love started waxing cold because she no longer loved the people of God like she once did. She became closed hearted and skeptical about everyone. She didn’t know this was a weapon Satan was trying to use to weaken her faith.

Jesus tells us that because iniquity shall abound, the love of many will wax cold (see Matt 24:12). The measure of our love for God is revealed in our love for our Christian brethren (see 1 John 4:21), and this love is manifested through our deeds. If we start waning in our love for our brethren, it means our love for God too is waning. One thing that greatly hinders the flow of love is offenses. What fuels offenses is iniquity. God punished those through whom offenses come (see Luke 17:1). But let us not let their actions cause our love to wax cold.

If you have observed that there was a time in your Christian walk that you were more fervent in serving the Lord than now, it most likely an indication that your love is waxing cold.

We see in today’s Bible text that the solution to such backsliding is simply repentance.

Go into today remembering that God is Happy to restore His people when they repent in humility (see 2 Chron 7:14).

JESUS KNOWS

🔊Devotional Audio Link☞ http://bit.ly/audio1123

Rev 2:1-2 [NET]
"To the angel of the church in Ephesus, write the following: "This is the solemn pronouncement of the one who has a firm grasp on the seven stars in his right hand- the one who walks among the seven golden lampstands: 2 'I know your works as well as your labor and steadfast endurance, and that you cannot tolerate evil. You have even put to the tests those who refer to themselves as apostles (but are not), and have discovered that they are false.

Sandra served the Lord from the days she was on campus. She loved the Lord with all her heart and gave her life to the advancement of God’s kingdom. Years after finishing school, she became anxious over who to marry and made a mistake in that regard. As soon as she realized this, the devil capitalized on it and made her feel worthless and useless in the kingdom.

One of the biggest temptations any Christian can face is when he begins to think that all his labor of love in the kingdom of God has been forgotten. It is one of the reasons people draw back and become less committed. The devil specializes in deceiving people to think that all they have done in the kingdom will count for nothing because there is something wrong they did.

But notice that even though the church in Ephesus had something wrong the Lord pointed out and warned them about (we would see this tomorrow), He begins by assuring them that He is aware of their labor and knows their works.

The Lord wanted them to know that He has been keeping track of their success and was very interested in every detail of their walk.

Go into today remembering that the Lord closely watches over you and sees every detail of your life. Ask the Lord to help you walk worthy of Him today and every day.

THEIRS IS THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN

🔊Devotional Audio with Healing Prayer ☞ http://bit.ly/audio1122
Matt 5:3 [NKJV]
3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

For the first time in his life, Dare understood what it meant to know Jesus. Jesus was no more just a religious figure he heard about in Bible stories; Jesus was now a real, living person to him.

For the first time in his life, when he prayed, he was talking to a person he knew and not just to a deity that might or might not hear him. As Dare grew in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus, he grew in grace and spiritual power. He was no more afraid of the unknown. This is what happens to a person when he becomes born again.

Being born again is the re-birth of your spirit that makes you able to perceive the realm of God -God becomes real to you (see John 3:3). New-birth cannot happen to a person who does not see the need for it and want it (the poor in spirit).

When you become born again, it means Jesus is now your savior and Lord. You see, he cannot fill your heart if you do not agree and accept (confess) that He is Lord. He is your Lord, because you now know Him and are living to please Him as the owner and controller of your life. This means your life is no more your own, you have been bought with a price; you now have a Lord who rules over your life. Those who humbly let this happen to them are the ones who inherit the kingdom of heaven.

Go into today confessing that you will inherit the kingdom of heaven because Jesus is your Lord.

Prayer: Thank God for making it possible for you to inherit His kingdom.

BLESSED ARE THE POOR IN SPIRIT

🔊Devotional Audio Link☞ http://bit.ly/audio1121

Matt 5:3 [NKJV]
3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Dare had everything he needed materially. He didn’t see the need to be committed to Jesus because he didn’t want to ‘inconvenience’ himself.

When he got married and had his first child, his child was afflicted with a strange kind of disease. Dare remembered that when he was a child, his father never rushed them to the hospital first, but would simply pray for them and their sicknesses would leave. Dare knew he didn’t have that kind of power to heal his child. He started calling on the name of the Lord because he now saw how poor he was without God. He now wanted the power of God his father had.

Many people have not come to God because they have not seen enough of the glory of God in the lives of those who claim to know God. Their Christian friends are as fearful as them, and they see no real signs of power in their lives.

The knowledge of the glory of God will fill the earth just as the waters fill the seas. This means because of the power of grace, people will see and know the glory of God through the lives of believers.

The greatest manifestation of the power of God is when a sinner is converted to a saint. This is only possible by the power of the cross.

Go into today asking the Lord to help you walk in a manner that advertises His glory and power.

POOR IN SPIRIT

 🔊Devotional Audio Link☞ http://bit.ly/audio1120
Luke 5:32[NET]
32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

Dare was born in a Christian home. He was a very disciplined ‘righteous’ fellow. The problem was that Dare didn’t have a personal relationship with the Lord. He was not yet born again because he had never asked the Lord to come and be his Lord and savior. Because there was no evident bogus sin in his life, he assumed he was already righteous before God and didn’t acknowledge he needed a savior. He was not living under the dominion of the Lord Jesus.

That was the case with the Pharisees and scribes that rejected Christ. They were the teachers of the Law and were blameless according to the law as they understood it.

Jesus couldn’t minister to them because they were already righteous in their own eyes.

Did you notice that the gospel is preached to the poor (see Luke 4:18)? The poverty here depicts those who realize and see their need for God. They have understood how spiritually impoverished they are without God. They are the poor in spirit, and theirs is the kingdom of heaven (see Mat 5:3).

People who do not see the righteousness of God do not understand how bankrupt they are regarding righteousness. God's will is that our lives radiate this righteousness that is not a product of law but a result of grace (divine empowerment) and [our knowledge of the] truth.

As you go into today, ask the Lord to empower you to walk in the divine nature and project the beauty of His holiness. It is time to stop depending on your own understanding and start looking unto Jesus for empowerment to be Holy.

BOLDNESS AND POWER 2

🔊Devotional Audio Link☞ http://bit.ly/audio1119

Prov 28:1 [NASB]
The wicked flee when no one is pursuing, but the righteous are bold as a lion.

When Doyin left his brother-in-law’s house, he felt bad because he could not minister to their sick child. He also knew that the way he felt guilty about something he had repented from was not the will of God. He decided to spend the rest of the day with the Lord and renew his strength. He spent the rest of the day praying and listening to God’s word.

There is nothing that drains spiritual power like guilt and sin consciousness. Sin attempts to create separation between us and God, and our strength comes from our union and fellowship with God.

Spending time with God is the key to renewing your [spiritual] strength. The more we spend time with the Lord, the more we grow in His grace [and power]. Grace is multiplied through the knowledge of the Lord (2 Pet 1:2)

Do not forget that the reason Jesus came was to take away the sin of the world (see John 1:29). His coming made it possible for anyone that comes to God through Him to have access to the Father. Sin is spiritual, it is separation from God [the source of spiritual life], and it produces death. The physical manifestation of this separation is disobedience.

The fruit of the knowledge of good and evil made it possible for humans to think they can live without God. It makes it possible for man to separate himself from God. Separation from God is spiritual death. Spiritual death is a process whose initial stage is manifested as sin.

Go into today knowing that our access to God is through [the righteousness of] Christ, not through us. Our boldness should come from our access to God through Christ.

BOLDNESS AND POWER

🔊Devotional Audio Version ☞ http://bit.ly/audio1118

Prov 28:1 [NASB]
The wicked flee when no one is pursuing, but the righteous are bold as a lion.

Doyin went visiting his brother-in-law when he saw that their child was very sick. It was clear to Doyin that the sickness was a demonic affliction. This was the kind of situation that Doyin would normally handle in faith and send the demon packing, but the day before, Doyin did something wrong at work and his conscience was still torturing him. Because of this, he could not muster the required boldness to cast out the unclean spirit.

No matter how anointed a person is, if he loses his boldness and confidence in Christ Jesus, he wouldn’t be able to do much. The devil understands this too well. He does everything to keep Christians under the web of guilt and condemnation so that they would not be able to exert their spiritual authority over him.

As a Christian, you must never forget that your right standing with God is not based on your righteousness but based on the righteousness of Christ. The blood of Jesus has taken away every reason to stay in guilt over something you did and have repented from. Jesus has already taken the punishment for your sins; don’t attempt to take it again by allowing Satan to keep you under guilt through thoughts of condemnation. Satan knows that if you continue feeling guilty, you will not be able to access the required grace to walk in your divine nature.

(See Heb 12:1) Sins and weights slow Christians down in the race because the spiritual energy used to resist Satan’s fiery darts of guilt and condemnation could be used for more fruitful spiritual work.

Go into today knowing that there is no condemnation against you if you are in Christ. Jesus is our advocate in heaven (see Rom 8:34).

Prayer: Plea the blood of Jesus against every guilty conscience and thoughts of condemnation.

I KNOW THY WORKS

🔊Devotional Audio ☞ http://bit.ly/2hbb5iy

Rev 2:2 [NET]
2 'I know your works as well as your labor and steadfast endurance, and that you cannot tolerate evil. You have even put to the tests those who refer to themselves as apostles (but are not), and have discovered that they are false.

Many of the missionaries that went to preach the gospel in Terna’s village were professionals in the city. They would plan their vacations together and use the time for mission work. Many of them were medical doctors, some lawyers, some accountants, some engineers, etc.

When their colleagues would plan vacation trips to some of the most luxurious international destinations, they would spend their vacation time, money and skills for the furtherance of the gospel in some place where there is still spiritual darkness. They did this because their hearts were fixed on the kingdom of God and His righteousness. Many of them did not know the extent of reward that was being stored up for them in heaven.

The word of the Lord for someone today is ‘I know your works, your labor, and your patience’. You may have forgotten some of your labor in the kingdom, but Jesus has not forgotten, and your reward has been stored up for you. Your reward is eternal. It will not only manifest in this life but will manifest for all eternity.

The wisest thing any Christian can do is to sow his resources for the advancement of the kingdom of God here on earth. This is how to store up eternal treasure (Mat 6:20).

Go into today remembering that God is not unjust to forget your labor of love (see Heb 6:10).

Prayer: Thank God for the privilege to labor in His kingdom.
Ask for grace to be more faithful in the kingdom work.

THE CHURCH BRINGS LIGHT

🔊Devotional Audio Version ☞ http://bit.ly/2h5r13q

Rev 1:20 [AMP]
20 As to the hidden meaning (the mystery) of the seven stars which you saw on My right hand and the seven lampstands of gold: the seven stars are the seven angels (messengers) of the seven assemblies (churches) and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.

Terna’s village was in thick spiritual darkness. Witches and sorcerers ruled the village, and they oppressed everyone and kept them in bondage.

The deliverance of that village came when some missionaries visited. They organized a crusade and ministered the gospel to many who were oppressed. Several sick people were healed and many others delivered from demonic oppression. Some of the missionaries remained in the village and established a church for the new believers. Light came to that village through the church.

From today’s Bible text the lampstands represent church assemblies.

Every church assembly is placed in their location by the Lord to shine His light (the knowledge of the glory of God) and judge darkness there.

The light provided by the church is because the church (lampstand) does its physical and spiritual part to keep the fire burning.

When Jesus said ‘you are the light of the world’ He was referring to the Church. You along with your brethren in your local church assembly bring great spiritual illumination to that locality. Every Christian should be part of a Christian fellowship; by so doing he is fulfilling his calling of being a territorial light bringer.

Go into today knowing that as member of a church assembly, you have a part to play in keeping the fire burning.

If you are a Christian and you are not committed to any Christian fellowship assembly, ask the Lord to lead you to the one for you.

VICTORY OVER SIN 2

🔊Devotional Audio Version ☞ http://bit.ly/2g91P9Z

Rom 6:14 [KJV]
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

Denis was still under the dominion of sin and he knew it. It appeared that the more he tried to live above sin, the more powerful sin appeared to be. One day as he read Rom 6:14, it dawned on him that he was not yet free from the dominion of sin because he was not yet under grace. You see, you are either under grace or under the law. If sin still has dominion over you, it is because you are not yet walking under grace.

Grace is the ability that God gives us to walk in His divine nature. Grace is empowerment from the Lord, and this empowerment is available because our spirits have been renewed and the Spirit of Christ now dwells within us. The Holy Spirit is the one who administers grace to our spirits. This means a person who is not baptized in the Holy Spirit will not walk in the fullness of God’s grace for him.

Anyone who begins to think that he has enough discipline and strength to obey God and walk above sin is beginning to experiment walking outside of Grace.

Go into today knowing that the only way a person still in flesh and blood can walk above the limitation of the flesh is to walk under grace. Ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit afresh.

VICTORY OVER SIN 1

🔊Devotional Audio Version ☞ http://bit.ly/2h1clo4

Rom 6:14 [KJV]
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

When I was a teenager, I used to be overly afraid of snakes, and this made it very difficult for me to be able to kill even a very small snake when I had to. My fear of snakes was because I was too conscious that snakes could bite and kill me. I observed that people who could kill even very big snakes were not overly conscious of the snake's power to kill, and were not afraid of them. They could kill snakes because snakes had no power over them.

When a person walks under the law, it means in his heart, his right standing with God is dependent on his ability not to commit sin. Whenever he commits any sin, there is a process in him that seeks to atone for the sin by himself because he has failed himself in establishing a righteousness of his own. Because of this, he does not feel worthy to approach God, and therefore distances himself more from the grace of God that would have made him victorious. The sin now becomes a stronghold in his mind, and he keeps falling and rising for a lifetime if he does not get saved from the law.

When a person walks under grace, he knows that his right standing with God is not based on his ability not to sin, but is based on the righteousness of Jesus. So he knows that even if he misses it, he is not condemned and can still approach God's throne of Grace to obtain mercy and grace to help him overcome that sin. Because of this understanding of grace, sin loses its power over him. Because he is born of God, he does not continue in sin because his regenerated spirit is deathly allergic to it.

Go into today remembering that the key to living a victorious life above the power of sin is to understand the grace of God and live by it.

GOD'S MERCY

🔊Devotional & BIBLE Audio ☞ hhttp://bit.ly/2gStr4N
Rom 9:14-16
14 What shall we say then? Is there injustice with God? Absolutely not! 15 For he says to Moses: "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion."16 So then, it does not depend on human desire or exertion, but on God who shows mercy.

Jide was deeply disturbed because he had prayed several years for his sister to be saved and she was not saved. It got to a time that he stopped praying because he started to think that ‘maybe she was not predestined for salvation’. But Jide couldn’t be more wrong. That was a call that only God could make concerning a person. His job was to continue to pray and preach until he sees results.

There is so much about the divine nature that our minds do not have the capacity to understand. If we think our salvation is based on our desire for truth alone, then we would be sorely wrong. There is much more at play when it comes to the salvation of a soul. We must never forget that it is a product of God’s mercy and grace. And we can influence this for our loved ones and neighbors by interceding for them before the throne of grace. Because we have eternal life, we too can influence things that can only be influenced from the realm of eternity.

If you have a loved one who has not received Christ, do not cease in prayer and supplication for him or her. Pray more for mercy than anything else when praying for such a person to be saved.

Go into today remembering that all of your friends and relatives in Christ would spend eternity in the presence of God, and you will be together.

CAN A PERSON LOSE HIS SALVATION ?

🔊Devotional Audio Here☞ http://bit.ly/2g6HXHJ

Rom 8:38-39 [NET]
For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor heavenly rulers, nor things that are present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Nobody loses his salvation because Jesus stopped loving him and withdrew His salvation. Jesus never stops loving people, and Jesus does not withdraw His salvation from people. It is people who willfully reject the salvation of Christ.

It was an act of your will that brought you to believing in Christ. Those who reject Christ do this by an act of their will. God does not interfere with people’s free will.

Question: But how is it possible for a person to willfully reject Christ after experiencing him(Heb 6:4-6)? Were such people really saved in the first place?

Answer: Yes they were really saved. 2 Peter 2:20-21 talks about such people who were once genuinely saved: 20 For if after they have escaped the filthy things of the world through the rich knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they again get entangled in them and succumb to them, their last state has become worse for them than their first. 21 For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than, having known it, to turn back from the holy commandment that had been delivered to them.
No one can know the Lord unless he is born again.
Satan’s ultimate goal in continually tempting believers is to bring them to the point where they draw back in faith and [practically] renounce Christ. It usually starts when people give the devil more and more room in their lives through continual iniquity and rebellion against Christ’s authority.

Go into today knowing that there is nothing in all eternity that can make God stop loving you. He will not reject anyone who comes to Him.

Prayer: Father, lead me not into temptation, and deliver me from [doing] evil. In Jesus name. Amen.

VICTORY THROUGH HIM WHO LOVED US

🔊Devotional Audio with Bible ☞ http://bit.ly/2gROZz1

Rom 8:36-37 [AMP]
Even as it is written, For Thy sake we are put to death all the day long; we are regarded and counted as sheep for the slaughter. [Ps 44:22.] 37 Yet amid all these things we are more than conquerors and gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loved us.

One of the devil’s biggest lies to Christians is that God does not love them as much as much as they think. But the truth is that God loves us more than we think.

The devil understands that if he can get a Christian to doubt the reality of God’s love for him, that Christian's faith will be unstable. The devil’s ultimate goal is to make a believer’s faith fail (see Luke 22:31). But we don’t let this happen by persistently using God’s word to resist his lies and wiles. We fight the good fight of faith.

Amid persecutions or trials, when a Christian’s confidence in God’s love does not waver, he will conquer because his faith will only grow stronger and not fail.

The most precious thing you have is your faith, and the devil does everything to make you lose it because he knows that your salvation is received [and sustained] through faith. Satan’s biggest weapon against your faith is sin. When a Christian continues to willfully walk in sin and does not fight it, he is tampering with his good [healthy] conscience and playing with the likelihood of shipwrecking his faith (see 1 Tim 1:18-19). Sin ultimately produces spiritual death (separation from God). See James 1:15. Your relationship with God is through your faith. Walking in sin causes spiritual death because it gradually erodes your faith (see Rom 8:13, Rom 6:23).

Go into today knowing that Christians who chose to live by the word of God will not fall for Satan’s traps calculated to make them lose their faith.

HIS LOVE ENDURES FOREVER

🔊Devotional Audio with Bible Here☞ http://bit.ly/2gsx4Ri

Rom 8:35-36
35 Can anything ever separate us from Christ's love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?

Phillip: pastor, are you sure God still loves me? Because all these situations I have been facing for the past year does not prove to me that God still loves me.
PST John: Yes, I know God still loves you. God’s love for you is eternal, it does not change.
Phillip: but what if I may have done something really bad that has made God withdraw His love for me?
PST John: when you were still dead in your sins and didn’t care about God, didn’t God love you then? What makes you think He will stop loving you now that you care about Him?
God’s love for us is eternal and unending- it endures forever (see Psa 100:5). If we are not enjoying the love and grace of God like we should, the problem is not with God but with us.
Think of the suns that shines every day without fail. If you hide from the light of the sun, does it mean the sun did not shine? That is how God’s love and grace is. People who ‘lose it’ are the ones who rejected it, not that Christ rejected them.
Go into today asking the Lord to help you always be properly positioned to experience the undeniable manifestation of His love and grace. Know that no matter what you are going through, God’s love for you has not changed.

WHO DARES ACCUSE

🎧 Devotional Audio Here☞ http://bit.ly/2gXbo0z

Rom 8:33-34 [NLT]
Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. 34 Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God's right hand, pleading for us.

If you read the book of Job you will understand that Satan accuses people so that he can afflict them. Satan does not have the license to afflict God’s people unless he has successfully accused them before the throne of God. He loves to send his accusations against our consciences so that we can feel condemned. He also accuses people before the throne of God so that he can receive a license to afflict them because of their iniquity.

If the devil can succeed in making you feel condemned before God, then he has succeeded in one step of his program to afflict. He knows he cannot condemn you any longer before God because Jesus Christ is sitting there speaking for you. Because of the sacrifice of Christ, Satan can no longer do anything to cause God to withdraw His protection, mercy, grace and blessings from us.

Since Satan cannot stop God from blessing us, he tries to stop us from accessing God’s grace and blessing. He understands that no one approaches God’s throne without confidence and boldness, so he tries to accuse us to the extent that we lose our confidence to access God’s throne of grace and mercy where we continually obtain mercy and grace to overcome his wiles.

As you go into today, know that Satan cannot successfully accuse you before God, the only thing he can do now is to send his accusations to your conscience to make you feel guilty and unable to access God’s glorious resources that are available to you at the expense of Christ Jesus. Don’t let that happen.
