Acts 1:8 (KJV) But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Victor gained admission into a university and had to live in a compound off-campus. Unknown to him, this neighborhood was full of vices and dishonorable people. Being so young and well cultured, he could not engage the perpetrators of these vices productively. Some of them were old enough to be his parents. He however lived peaceably among them.

When he announced that he was going to be leaving the compound because he had graduated, many parents in the neighborhood brought their children to him and pleaded that he prays for them. A number of them told him that they had named their children Victor because they wanted their children to turn out like him.

Victor never had the opportunity to preach to many of these neighbors, his way of life however did. God is seeking witnesses who will influence their sphere for Him, even when the privilege to preach does not present itself.

Merriam Webster’s dictionary defines a witness as, ‘‘one that gives evidence; specifically: one who testifies in a cause or before a judicial tribunal''.

Your daily living as a child of God should give evidence to the life of Jesus. Your life should be a standard by which an unbeliever can be judged.

Jesus is no longer here bodily, yet the world must see Him, else, they will be condemned. If this must happen, they will have to see Him through you. This is why God gave us His Holy Spirit.

Go into today knowing that witnessing for Jesus goes beyond what you preach; it is how you live.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, give me the grace to live as your witness for you. Amen!

God's Kingdom Reward System

1 Corinthians 3:14-15 (NKJV)If anyone's work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

Some have said that as long as they escape hellfire, they are fine, they do not need any reward. Some have even quoted the psalmist by saying they would rather be a doorkeeper in God's house than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. They fail to realize that in this, the psalmist was talking about service in God's house (Doorkeepers are servants) -- service for which an eternal reward would be due.

Anyone who tries to downplay the reality of service and reward in the kingdom of God does this because he does not understand the kingdom. Many of the times Jesus taught about the kingdom of God, He taught about service and reward in the kingdom (Matt 5:12, Luke 19:11-27, Matt 25:14-30, etc).

Somebody once argued that seeing the kingdom of God was the same thing as inheriting the kingdom of God. I simply asked if the word 'see' and the word 'inherit' meant the same thing.

On the day when we believers will stand before the Lord to give an account of our stewardship here on earth, some will receive rewards while some others will suffer loss.

Some will sit with the Lord on thrones and rule the universe with Him forever, but others will not have that privilege. They will suffer loss because even though it was their destiny as sons of God to inherit the kingdom of God [as joint-heirs with Christ], their work has disqualified them from their inheritance and thrones. They would be saved but would have lost their inheritance through the fire of judgment.

Go into today remembering that how we spend our relatively short time here would determine how we would spend the rest of eternity.

1 Corinthians 3:12-13 (NET) If anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, each builder’s work will be plainly seen, for the Day will make it clear, because it will be revealed by fire. And the fire will test what kind of work each has done.

Samuel was discouraged because even though he had a burning desire to serve God, he did not believe he had received any grace to serve God from the pulpit. He tried, but he realized that he did not have the grace to serve in that way. It took him time to realize that even though he did not have a pulpit, he had a platform, and his platform was as important to God as a pulpit.

Daniel (in the Bible) never had a pulpit, but he fulfilled God's assignment for his life through a secular platform. He could do this because he understood that even though he was in the world, he was not of the world.

Whatever it is you are doing as a believer, you are building something and you will give an account for it before the Lord on that day.

How do we build on the foundation? We build on the foundation by ministering to people according to the grace that has been given to us (see Rom 12:6-9). As believers, we have gifts that differ according to the grace that has been given to us (see Rom 12:6). The way we serve with these gifts determines what we are building with.

Go into today remembering that whether you know it or not, your life is building something that will be tried on that day.

Prayer: ask the Lord to help you live a life that pleases Him in all respects.

The Rest of God

Hebrews 4:10 (KJV) For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

Eno was heartbroken as she spoke with Bose on the phone. “It happened again”, she said “in spite of my best efforts. Why is it so hard to obey God even when one wants to?” she lamented.

The sentiments of Eno are one almost every believer can relate with. Chances are that you have either had such a struggle once in your life and walk with God, or you are currently undergoing such yourself. Here is the thing, in the matter of righteousness, desire does not equate ability. What most men have failed to realize is that it takes God’s ability to produce God’s righteousness. This understanding is crucial.

Man was never designed to please God independent of God. Sometimes, we try to impress and/or express our gratitude to God for his goodness by trying to please him by our own works, but it just won’t work. The solution is God’s Rest. In God’s Rest, man’s effort to produce righteousness of His own accord is suspended and all his efforts will be directed at trusting the Lord’s wisdom and power for righteousness.

In Genesis chapter 2 verse 2 we see the scripture testify that God rested from His work of creation. Nonetheless, every time we plant a grain of corn on the ground, God’s creative power swings into action, and germination and growth occurs. This is because God had earlier placed a law that caused plants to reproduce after their own kind. It is the same reason when a man meets with a woman (under the right biological conditions), the miracle of conception begins. Because God had said, “Be fruitful, multiply” and by so doing set in motion the consistent work/process of procreation. Likewise, when a man enters into God’s rest, God’s power is set into motion in him to produce the righteous works of God that pleases Him (See Philippians 2:12&13AMP).

So when Jesus says, “Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matt 11:28), It is an invitation you want to accept with all your heart, embracing all its realities.

Pray like this: I am entering into God’s rest by faith, so I can walk in a manner pleasing unto him producing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Paradox of Rest

Hebrews 4:11a (KJV) Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest.

Eno was excited and filled with joy. She put a call across to Doris asking, “So since God is at work in me to work His good pleasure, it is settled. I don’t have to do anything else. Or do I?”

The idea of God’s Rest does not absorb man of his responsibility. It just means that man’s labors must be directed at receiving, walking in, and making the most of God’s provision. Apostle Peter writing to believers began by assuring us that God’s divine power has given us “all that pertains to life and godliness”, and that He has bestowed on us the privilege of partaking in His divine nature. Nonetheless, in the very next breath, he says the following:

“And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to your virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Read 2 Peter 1:3-8).

The believer who wishes to walk in the benefits of God’s Rest begins by understanding that only by trusting in the finished works of Christ can he be justified, then he begins to joyfully release himself to God’s demands upon his life knowing that God supplies the ability to do them. He is no longer trusting in his abilities to produce God’s result and so he buries all his efforts into building his faith, receiving strength in his inner man, understanding the will of God, and following the leading of the Holy Spirit.

He builds his capacity to trust God even more, he gives himself to praying, and praying the right way, knowing that this builds him up as well as makes God’s tremendous power available for working. He renews his mind and enjoys the transformation of the Holy Spirit. Where before he tries to get healing because of his need for it, now he prays to receive healing in full assurance because he has seen and believed that God’s word says he is healed.

Labour therefore but not to produce dead works, but rather to enter God’s rest from whence good works are produced in righteousness.

Pray like this: Lord, help me enter your rest and cease from my own fruitless works. Amen.

Slow Down: God At Work

Philippians 2:13 (AMP) [Not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight...

“Pius, we need to talk”, said Pius to himself. “How much longer will this cycle continue. You lie and have an unbridled tongue that can, at the least provocation, lash out in anger or indulge in vulgar talk. You repent with profuse tears and deep remorse, promising God heaven and earth and vowing good behavior going forward only to go right back to the same old pattern of fears, lies and lack of self-control. For how much longer Pius?”

God-sized demands are only met by God-sized ability. What God has done in redemption is to produce a new race of men who are wired with the DNA of his Son, who Himself is God, knowing that what man needs is not mere wiping away of his old sin but a change of nature. God provided man with a new spirit, and the Holy Spirit to dwell in our heart. Now this new nature functions by the power of God. The best a recreated man can do is to discover how to depend on God so that His power can have free course.

The verse preceding today’s text talks about ‘working out one’s salvation’, however, the following verse, which is today’s text, makes it very clear that the out-working of one’s salvation is only made possible by the inworking of God in us. Somewhere around River Jabbok, as the morning sun was slowly rising over the horizon, Jacob was busy contending with God. This was a man who knew his way around difficult men and difficult situations, employing hook and crook to achieve his ends. However, on this fateful morning, it was until his thigh was put out of joint that, for once, God had his way with him, and Israel was born (See Gen 32:22-30).

Learn to trust God. Learn to trust in His word. God’s word has integrity, it is alive and full of power. The wisdom of resting on (believing, trusting and doing) God’s word is that God is watching over His word to perform it. His angels are attentive to His word to bring it to pass.

Go into today remembering that when a man depends on God through His word, he is tapping into grace, for God himself will supply the strength and wisdom needed to accomplish what His word says.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me depend on you and draw strength to please you in all things. Amen.

The Need For Obedience

James 4:7 (KJV) Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Praise was so full of joy that it radiated out. His countenance was lighted up and his mood changed to a very cheerful one. He continued in this state for days, and even his neighbors noticed. ‘‘What has changed? Praise is now different?’’ One of his neighbors responded, ‘‘Praise has just received Jesus as his savior, and what you are seeing him display is the joy of salvation''.

But time passed, and unfortunately, Praise went back to doing some of the evil things he forsook, and the joy left. He became hot-tempered and unfriendly again. Because he wanted the joy and peace back, he would not miss any Church service, would do every assignment committed to him in Church the best way he could, prayed and fasted, but all these did not result in him being joyful. What really went wrong?

God’s commandment to every child is ‘obey’ (Ephesians 6:1) and the same applies to every newly born again child of God. After salvation, God expects that every child of His grows to the point where they can willfully submit to him because it is at this point that a man becomes useful to him and this is God’s ultimate aim: learning to obey God is the only route to this.

Obedience is what brings us to the point where we can willingly submit to God. This you will achieve after a very long period of obedience. Sadly, only very few ever get to this level in God. We were dead because of sin and our nature was that of the devil. This nature was taken away at salvation, but the corruption in our minds remain. The way God chose to deal with this corruption is by giving us commandments that must be obeyed.

The compendium of these commandments is what is referred to as the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus. After steady and consistent obedience to these commandments, our minds are being renewed by the life that the law of life gives. At the height of this renewal, we gain the ability to now use our will to choose what God wants(our desires become His desires).

It is after this that we can submit or offer ourselves to God and this enables us to resist the devil. If you noticed that you often fall into temptations, it could be that you have not been faithful in obeying God.

Go into today knowing that it is by obeying God that you gain the ability to submit to God and resist the devil.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to empower you with grace to obey him.

1 Corinthians 3:9 (NET) We are coworkers belonging to God. You are God’s field, God’s building.

Apostle Paul was a tentmaker (this made him a builder). He usually built for his clients and received his payment at the end of his job. This was mostly how he sustained himself and paid his bills while ministering the gospel to the pagans.

He used the illustration of building to explain certain truths to the Corinthians. He likened the ministry work he was doing among them to a building project. But just like his building projects, this building was not his own but the Lord’s and he would be rewarded for his work on it.

When he said 'we are God’s coworkers', he was referring particularly to himself and every other minister of God like Apollos who had ministered and were ministering to the Corinthians.

We would see that he went ahead to explain the part of the building he was responsible for, and how others were responsible for other parts of the building. He left a sublime warning to every other person building among the Corinthians to be careful how they build because just like an earthly builder, they would be judged according to how consistent with the master plan their building turns out to be.

Many people have set out to build for God without receiving a building plan. They build because others are building and cannot build properly because they are not building according to the master plan.

Go into today remembering that we are co-workers belonging to God. We do not belong to ourselves, and the work does not belong to us. At the end of the day, we shall give an account of our work and be rewarded accordingly.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you build correctly according to His plan.

The Pardon

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NET) For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God; it is not from works, so that no one can boast.

Certain hardened criminals sentenced to death were given a royal pardon, but in order for them to receive it, they had to show their respective parole officers signs of a changed heart and mind. Some of them heard about the pardon and were so repentant and grateful, and they received their pardon and were set free to live new lives.

Some of the criminals believed the news that the king had pardoned them, while some others didn't hear the news because those who first enjoyed the pardon were too self-centered to remember to inform everyone about the pardon. Some others heard the news but refused to accept it because they were not willing to change their ways. They remained condemned prisoners.

This is how our salvation is. We have received a pardon from God for our sins because of the sacrifice of Christ Jesus. It is only those who hear this good news and accept it that can receive the pardon. They are those who repent of their sins and are given the opportunity to a new life in Christ Jesus.

Because of sin, everyone born into this world was condemned and going to perish. But there is a pardon for those who believe in the gospel(good news) and accept it. They repent of their sins and become good kingdom citizens.

We can see that our salvation is not because of our works but because of the goodness and grace of God. We can also see that believing in the good news and repenting is the way to receive the gospel. Being a model citizen is not payment for our salvation, it is a reasonable response to it.

Go into today thanking the Lord for the salvation of your soul.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you do your best in spreading the good news of salvation to those who haven't heard and believed.

Are You The Righteousness Of God?

2 Corinthians 5:21(ESV) For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

When Todd returned from work, he turned on his television set and as usual, he selected a Christian channel. The preacher preached from today’s text and in his conclusion said ‘‘if you are a child of God, you are the righteousness of God and what you do or do not do cannot change that; all you need is to believe what Jesus has done''. Just after the preacher had finished his preaching, another preacher began to preach on the same channel, this other preacher however said, ‘‘as a child of God, you must be watchful because it is possible to fall''. Todd became confused not knowing which of the two preachers to follow.

While it is true that Jesus was made sin so that in him we might become the righteousness of God, note, however that it is so that ‘‘we might become’’. In another word, without the work of Jesus, we cannot become the righteousness of God. Now that you have been granted access through Christ Jesus, you are to judge yourself.

If we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world (1 Corinthians 11:31-32).

From the above scripture, we see that it is possible for us to be condemned with the world. Who then is the righteousness of God? It is the one in whom sin and flesh have been judged. There cannot be righteousness without judgment (Isaiah 26:9b).

Isaiah 1:26 KJV reads “and I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called, the city of righteousness, the faithful city”. You see, righteousness is always a product of judgment.

If you lead a life that is without restraint, it is because you have not met with the Judge. No one continues in lawlessness after encountering the Judge.

Go into today knowing that you can become the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.

Pray this way: O LORD, correct me, but with judgment; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing (Jeremiah 10:24).

Church Growth

1 Corinthians 3:5-6 (NET) What is Apollos, really? Or what is Paul? Servants through whom you came to believe, and each of us in the ministry the Lord gave us. I planted, Apollos watered, but God caused it to grow.

When Jide became a pastor, his major concern was church growth. He wanted people to come in their numbers to the local church assembly he led. He was expecting growth and asking for growth, but wasn't planting and watering. His idea of church growth was simply limited to numerical growth which was a result of creating a conducive worship environment for people who came by invitation to want to come back.

The method of growth he expected was one that took advantage of what others have planted. He was not making any effort to bring sinners into the kingdom of God. All his effort was focused on causing people who already believe to leave their churches and start coming to his own.

Before you can expect God to give increase to any work of ministry you do, there has to be planting, and there has to be constant watering.

You cannot separate real church growth from evangelism and active discipleship. It could be media (radio, television, print) or house to house evangelism, but there has to proper evangelism and proper discipleship for there to be proper church growth.

There is the increase that God gives and there is the false increase that man orchestrates. To receive the increase that God gives, the ministry must be involved in planting and watering.

Go into today remembering that soul-winning and discipleship is the most important assignment of any local church assembly. The devil will always try to distract the church from the core assignments into focusing on other less important but high sounding things.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to show you how to properly plant and water so that His increase will come to every work He has entrusted you with.

Ephesians 2:4-5 (NET)But God, being rich in mercy, because of his great love with which he loved us, even though we were dead in transgressions, made us alive together with Christ – by grace you are saved!

When Tade was a little boy, he used to attend church service with his parents, but he never really accepted the Lord Jesus.
After his mother passed on many years later, he became bothered because he knew that her spiritual life acted as a covering over them. He couldn't describe it but he knew that she was spiritually alive and he was not.

After retirement, because he was now spending more time at home, he got to hear the gospel from some youths from a nearby church who were on house to house evangelism. Something one of them said got to him and remained in his heart for months - -  "he that has the Son has life".

Tade knew that that statement was true. His mother who had recently passed on had the Son and she had life. There was this peace (and joy) about her that indicated something deeper, it was eternal life.
Tade was now ready to accept the Lord Jesus because he too wanted to have life.

Those who are not yet born again are spiritually dead (see Ephesians 2:5). We see from today's Bible verse that those who believe in Jesus are made alive. This life is eternal life. It has the ability to quicken. That's why those who believe shall lay their hands on the sick and they shall recover. It is this life that flows through them to quicken the sick.

After you have received eternal life, in order for it to dominate the death of the flesh, you have to walk in the spirit. Those who do not walk in the spirit, who sow to the flesh by walking in the flesh, would reap death. But those who sow to the spirit by walking in the Spirit will reap life eternal. This is the most superior life in existence.

The more you walk in the spirit, the more your life would be able to express the eternal life that you have received as an incorruptible seed in your spirit.

Go into today knowing that as you walk in the spirit, the power of the divine life would manifest in your life and make you a wonder.
Prayer: Ask the Lord for renewed strength to walk in the Spirit and manifest eternal life.

Romans 14:17 (KJV) For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost

Tade and Tayo lost their jobs in the same week. On the Saturday of that week, Tade went for evangelism. Tayo who also was a member of the evangelism unit, however, stayed at home complaining, crying, and asking God questions. When Tade returned, she asked Tayo why she was not present for evangelism. Tayo immediately burst into tears: 'why should God do this to me? Why me? I have been faithful; I paid my tithe'. It was at that point that Tade realized that Tayo had not really known God as her Father because she lacked God's peace and joy.

Christianity is not just another religion, it is a life. Christians are people who have the life of Christ and are Christ-like.

In John 16:33 (KJV) Jesus says "in me you will have peace, but in the world tribulation" and in John 14: 27 (ESV) Jesus says "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid".

You see, Christians are people who have God’s peace. They are joyful even when faced with challenges; they have peace, even in the midst of storms. It is an inward life manifesting outwardly, it is no pretense neither is it complacency. It is real and tangible.

If your joy and peace is tied to things, situations, or happenings, you need to check if you really have God in you. God’s peace is from God who is above all. All things are subject to it and not the other way round.

This peace and joy is a mark that distinguishes Christians.

Go into today knowing that true peace and joy are exclusively reserved for God's children. Do you want true peace and joy? Become God's child.

Ephesians 2:2-3 (KJV) Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

Amaka had believed in the Lord Jesus, but she was still under the control of her flesh (and mind) and not under the control of her regenerated spirit. While her flesh (and mind) was robust and strong, her spirit was weak because she did not know how to feed and build it up.

She struggled spiritually until she understood that she was to be deliberate and intentional about letting the word of God fill her heart and empower her soul to align with the spirit, against the desires of the flesh.

She used to spend most of her free time watching unwholesome movies and discussing with her friends who were unbelievers. But as she started taking her spiritual growth seriously, she spent most of her free time listening to edifying sermons and having edifying discussions with her new friends who loved the Lord. Even the movies she now watched were carefully selected. As she gave more time to the things that built up her spirit, she found that she was no more dominated by the flesh because her spirit was now strong and robust.

Those who are outside of Christ are under the control of Satan the prince of the power of the air. Because they are controlled from their flesh which is physical, they can be manipulated by elemental spirits that control physical elements. Those who believe in Christ are made spiritually alive by Christ(1 Corinthians 15:45). Their born again spirits can now control them against the manipulation of elemental spirits through their flesh. Each time they yield to the spirit against the will of the flesh, they crucify the flesh and gain spiritual millage.

If your spirit is stronger than your flesh, you will do the will of the spirit, but if your flesh is stronger than your spirit, you will consistently do the will of the flesh, and this produces death (see Romans 8:13).

Go into today remembering to build up yourself on your most Holy faith (Jude 1:20). Remember to pray in the Holy Spirit and let the words of Christ dwell in you richly so that it can renew your mind.

Prayer: Lord, help me daily build up my spirit and continually please you in all things. Amen.

Ephesians 2:1-2 (KJV) And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience

Anyone who has not accepted Christ is still under the dominion of Satan the prince of the power of the air. It is interesting that apostle Paul refers to Satan this way.

In the Greek world, they understood very well the power of elemental spirits and how they controlled the elements. There are water elementals, fire elementals, land/earth elementals, and one more. These spirits were considered to have control over the elements, and they can use their power to manipulate those operating within their sphere of influence. The devil, who is their master is called the prince of the power of the air. He seeks to control everywhere there is air-- the whole earth. The only power that can deliver a person from his influence and control is the power of Christ.

As long as he breathes air, anyone who is not in Christ is ultimately under the control of the prince of the power of the air, whether he likes it or not.

Just like physically, we breathe air without ceasing, those who are in christ survive and have power over the kingdom of darkness by praying without ceasing-- that’s how we breathe spiritually. We practice the presence of God everywhere we go. Just like we feed on food and water physically to survive, those who are in Christ survive and have power over the influence of elemental spirits by feeding their spirits with God’s word. "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God" (Matthew 4:4).

Because they don't only exist through their flesh life(that depends on the elements) but are now sustained through the life of the spirit, those who are in Christ can overcome the prince of the power of the air. The life that truly sustains us does not draw its power from the elements but from God.

Go into today remembering that if you must live above the influence of elemental spirits, you must be deliberate and intentional in your commitment to prayer and the ministry of the word.

Prayer: Lord, help me live by the spirit and fulfill your purpose for me. Amen.

1 Corinthians 3:1-2 (KJV) And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.

When Maureen had her first child, her mother came from the village to help take care of the baby. Two months later, Maureen had to travel to take a very important professional exam she had missed because of pregnancy illness. She made enough breastmilk available in the refrigerator for the baby. Her mother knew exactly what to do to warm the milk and feed the baby. But there was an unexpected power outage for three days and the milk went bad. Maureen’s mother tried feeding the baby with baby formula, but he rejected it every time. She eventually decided to try feeding him with custard, and he loved it. The next day, she noticed that he was running a fever. When they got to the doctor, the doctor said the fever was because the baby found it difficult to digest the custard. He recommended another baby formula that the baby liked.

After Paul preached the gospel in Corinth, he started teaching the new believers the rudiments of the faith (see Heb 5:1-2). Just like an experienced doctor, he knew that if you feed spiritual newborn babes anything other than doctrinal milk, it would be difficult for them to comprehend, and it may cause spiritual disease instead of spiritual growth.

One of the most troubling things I see today is teachers teaching spiritual babes doctrines that are meant for the spiritually mature. When these spiritual babes, in turn, begin to teach these doctrines from their imperfect understanding, they end up teaching heresy.

John 8:31-32 (NET) Then Jesus said to those Judeans who had believed him, “If you continue to follow my teaching, you are really my disciples and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Mr. Allen had some mutated dogs that could never grow from being puppies. They were mutated to remain puppies all their lives. But one day, the dogs started a diet that began to annul their mutation. Because of this, they began to steadily grow into adults. But while puppies, Mr. Allen tied each of them with seven strands of knitting wool. And they remained bound that way. But as they started to grow, one day, some of them realized that they could now break free by virtue of their size and increased strength. The wool now seemed like a joke. All they had to do was to simply keep walking and the rope broke. But there were many of them who were still afraid of the power of the threads because as puppies, they had tried to break free to no avail. They were actually now bound by the limitation of the past. And because of this, they remained in bondage even though they had enough might(strength) to break free.

The dogs that got freedom got it because they came to the knowledge of the truth. This truth was that they could now walk away free.

If you are a disciple of Christ who follows His teachings, this is the truth concerning you: you have grown out of the power of sin. Sin no longer has power over you because we are now under God’s grace. This grace teaches us the word of God and causes us to grow out of the smallness that made sin dominate us (see Titus 2:8-9).
Go into today with this truth.

Prayer: Father, please help me grow into the fullness of Christ. Amen.

Galatians 3:13-14 (NET) Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us (because it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”) in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham would come to the Gentiles, so that we could receive the promise of the Spirit by faith.

Jim, Andrew, and Benjamin were close friends in college. With time, Andrew who was a believer observed that Benjamin had a certain sense of superiority. He actually believed that he was better than everyone around him and that whatever he did would proper. As Andrew continued to observe, he noticed that Benjamin believed so much that he would be successful and excel in what he does because he was a Jew and he believed that he walked in the blessing. As things turned out before everyone's eyes, Benjamin was always the most successful one in the lot.

It was clear to Andrew that there was a spiritual force working for the favor and success of Benjamin in all things. As Andrew studied the scriptures and prayed about this, he found that as a believer in Christ, he had more access to the blessing of Abraham than a Jew who does not believe in Christ. What the unbelieving Jew has is the shadow, but what the believer in Christ (whether Jew or Gentile) has is the fullness of the blessing. This blessing produces peace and prosperity and gives us the inheritance of eternal life.

As Andrew changed his mindset, and like Benjamin, started believing that he was blessed indeed, he noticed that the blessings started manifesting in his life. He even noticed that the manifestation of God's grace and blessing in his life was stronger than what Benjamin had enjoyed all these years.

Go into today remembering that in Christ, you have the fullness of God's blessing and have been redeemed from all curses. This blessing is activated in your life by faith. Start expecting things to work well because of you. It is the expectation of the righteous that is not cut short, not merely his desires.
Prayer: Lord, help me walk the earth with the right mindset. Amen

Sanctification

Romans 6:21-22 (NET) So what benefit did you then reap from those things that you are now ashamed of? For the end of those things is death. But now, freed from sin and enslaved to God, you have your benefit leading to sanctification, and the end is eternal life.

When I was much younger, I used to hear a lot about sanctification. It was believed by many believers in my country then that after a person believes and is discipled, the next stage was sanctification. A believer who converted and has lost the vestiges (characteristics) of his old life was the one considered to be sanctified.

There were many excesses those days, but one thing I can say for sure about those days was that those who professed faith in Christ Jesus were more disciplined than many who claim to be born again today.

As a result of true sanctification, there was a great revival in my country. Many Muslims and Idol worshipers received the gospel. It was commonplace to see a minister of the gospel who was formerly an enemy of the church before he received Christ. The church was not as wealthy but much more powerful in her ability to penetrate and win souls. But with time, among mainstream believers, teachings about sanctification diminished and many believers today don't even know what it means to be sanctified after believing.

But in today's Bible verse, we see that those who are free from sin have their benefit leading to sanctification. There are dimensions of God's glory and power that can only be revealed through sanctified vessels. Sinners would not be truly convicted and repent through the gospel from an unsanctified vessel.

Go into today remembering that sanctification sets you apart for God and God alone. Only those the Lord has sanctified can be truly useful for all His good works (2 Timothy 2:21).
Prayer: Lord, help me to live a sanctified Holy life that radiates your presence and glory.

The Gospel Message

1 John 1:5-6 (NET) Now this is the gospel message we have heard from him and announce to you: God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him and yet keep on walking in the darkness, we are lying and not practicing the truth.

Before Linda became born again, her heart was filled with darkness: pride, hatred, malice, racism, deceit, etc. She was a dressmaker who had a reputation for disappointing her clients. There was a time she intentionally delayed the production of the wedding dresses of one of her customers after making promises and multiple assurances. She did it on purpose and did it in a way that the lady was stranded. She was ready to face the consequences as long as she would have the satisfaction of seeing this lady in pain-- she hated to see people so happy. Linda was a very dark personality with many 'skeletons in her cupboard'. No one truly knew her, her heart was dark and wicked and she knew this.

When she traveled to the United States and tried to continue to stay there illegally, she eventually became stuck and stranded. She found herself in a situation where she was willing to do anything just to survive. It was during this tough period that she came in contact with real believers who truly loved the Lord and loved people. At certain times when she was going to be homeless, these believers were the only ones who cared.

The light and love manifested by the believers she came in contact with was what eventually broke her and made her able to receive the gospel and accept the Lord Jesus. Her heart that used to be full of darkness was now full of light because of the gospel. Instead of hatred and envy, her heart was now filled with the love, joy and peace of the Lord (Galatians 5:22).

In today's scripture, we see that the Gospel Message reveals that 'God is light', and in Him is no darkness at all'. This is really good news. We don't serve a dark, unjust, wicked god like the other gods of men. The Gospel Message talks about the nature and person of God, and this nature is what we receive when we truly accept Christ Jesus.

Anyone who truly accepts the gospel will be translated from darkness into light (Colossians 1:13). He who used to be filled with darkness (an agent of darkness and pain) would now become the light of the world (see Matthew 5:14). Light brings joy and peace, but darkness brings pain and grief.

Go into today remembering that as a believer in Christ Jesus, you are the light of the world. You now have the capacity to love God and love people. Don't hide your light but let it shine today and always.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for making me the light of the world. Help me shine ever brighter and bring praise to your name. Amen.

Immune to Judgment

1 Corinthians 2:15 (NKJV) But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.

When the Lord said 'judge not' in Matthew 7:1, He was talking to His disciples, and the context was a [Christian] disciple judging another disciple. That Sermon [on the mount] started in Matthew 5 after His disciples came up the mountain to meet Him (see Matt 5:1). in the sermon, He instructed them not to judge one another, that was why he said if you see a spec in "your brother’s" eye. The context here is "your brother" not "your neighbor", indicating that He is talking to disciples.

Today’s Bible verse reveals that even though the spiritual man has the ability to judge all things, no one has the ability to rightly judge him. For indeed, those who would be counted worthy to inherit the kingdom of Christ and reign with Him would also judge all men and even the angels (see 1 Cor 6:2-3). But even they are not qualified to judge each other correctly, no one is. The only Person able to judge them is their Lord and master (see Rom 14:4). This applies to spiritual believers and not carnal believers because walking in the flesh excludes a believer from immunity to judgment and condemnation (see Rom 8:1 in KJV, Rom 8:13).

Before Satan can afflict anyone, he must first have grounds for judgment and condemnation against him. These grounds do not exist for the spiritual man (whose life is ruled by the Holy Spirit). Even if a spiritual man falls, he rises again and does not stay there to create grounds for the accuser.

Go into today remembering that there is no judgment and condemnation for the spiritual man. The only thing that can make him walk in a way deserving of judgment is when he becomes carnal by continuing to unrepentantly walk in the flesh.

Prayer: Lord, please help me to always walk in the Spirit.

Titus 2:11-12 (ESV) For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age.
Jude and James were prayer partners. They often confessed their sins to one another and prayed for one another. In one of their prayer meetings, Jude told James how he had been lusting after a certain lady in the neighborhood and they prayed about the matter. But Jude later came in contact with a preacher who told him that confession of sins was for those under the law, and since Christ has redeemed him from the curse of the law, he is completely free and has no need to do anything further but simply enjoy what God has already done. Jude who had always wanted to indulge his lust now found a good reason to do so. He cut off from James and joined the preacher’s fellowship.

When James discovered all these, he tried his best to convince Jude against this new gospel but Jude was adamant. This new preacher had told Jude that all his sins whether past, present, or future were forgiven when he confessed Jesus, and anything he does after confessing Christ is no longer regarded as a sin because he is now living under grace.

This preacher preached a different Gospel, a gospel that is contrary to what the Holy Spirit is saying in today’s scripture.

According to Titus 2:11, Grace gives us the ability to renounce ungodliness and worldliness, thus, we are able to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives. If your daily living lacks self-control, uprightness, and godliness, what you claim to have is not grace.

Grace is that which enables us to live in this world and not be polluted by it (John 17:16). Grace is that which makes us strong and empowers us for exploits in the midst of a corrupt world (Daniel 11:32).

Go into today knowing that a man who lives by grace will have the literal ability to say no to sin. Such a man's outlook on life will be changed through the word of God.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, please help me by your grace to live above sin, stay strong, and do exploits for you. Amen!

Luke 1:74-75 (KJV) That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

Susan never knew her father and her grandmother who also used to be a prostitute was the only family she had. Even though they lived in the most affluent nation on earth, her family was so poor that they had to live on the generosity of strangers, prostitute themselves, sell drugs, and do other such illegal things to survive.

Susan had accepted the Lord Jesus but was not yet truly free from the power of curses in her bloodline because she did not fully understand the gospel and was not committed to living for God. She started experiencing true freedom when she rededicated her life to the Lord and understood that living for God and serving Him is the only way to truly appropriate our freedom in Christ.

We see in today's scripture that when we are delivered from the hands of our enemies, we are to serve God in holiness and righteousness all the days of our lives. Being committed to serving the Lord is the only guarantee of continued freedom in this present world. If you are not a serving son, you are a prodigal son. The prodigal son was born free but became worse than a slave in the land of strangers. It is time for all prodigal sons to come back home.

Isaiah 54:17 (KJV) says "No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord". Do you notice that the promises in the verse above are a heritage of those who serve the Lord? Curses are spiritual judgments, but only those who serve the Lord can effectively condemn them. Are you serving the Lord or are you serving mammon?

Go into today remembering that you were set free from the slavery of darkness to the glorious kingdom of God. When we commit ourselves to serve the Lord, we commit ourselves to the protection and power of heaven. Believers who are not committed to serving the Lord are cheating themselves.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me serve you and reap the benefits, In Jesus' name. Amen.

Exodus 8:1 (KJV) ‘‘And the LORD spake unto Moses, Go unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me''.

After spending about four hundred years in Egypt, the children of Israel began to cry to God for freedom because their pains and sufferings were excruciatingly unbearable under the taskmasters of Egypt. God heard their cry and came down to deliver them (Exodus 3:7-8), but He needed a reason for which their deliverance will be justifiable and the reason He found was, “that they may serve me”.

The most justifiable reason why you should be free is so you could serve God. So, if you will not serve Him, you are rejecting freedom. Many, after receiving Christ, are victims of oppression because they have not yet given to the service of God; they have refused God access to certain aspects of their lives, thus giving the devil advantage to oppress them in those areas.

The cheapest route to deliverance is getting lost in service to God. Exodus 23:22 (KJV) says ‘‘But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries''. But how will this happen? It is by loving and serving God with all your heart and with all your soul (Deuteronomy 11:13).

Exodus 19:5-6 (KJV) reads, ‘‘Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: and ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation’’

Exodus 23:25-26 (KJV) ‘‘And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee. There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfill''.

Go into today knowing that freedom will come when you totally release that area of your life under contention to God in service.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I choose to serve you with my all. And as I serve you, I receive all-round freedom. Amen!

Mark 4:31 (NKJV) [The kingdom of God] is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth
Luke 17:21
…the kingdom of God is within you.

If you plant a mustard seed, everything about the tree including the fruits it will bear and the huge size it will attain is encoded into that seed. As the seed begins to grow day by day, its real nature is revealed in the plant. Everything the tree will ever become has been encoded in that seed.

When you received Christ as Lord and Savior, you received the righteousness of God in your Spirit. This seed of God in your Spirit is incorruptible (see 1 Peter 1:23). God’s plan is that as you live out your life here on earth by faith, His righteousness within you is revealed. ”For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; it is written, ‘the just shall live by faith’” (Rom 1:17). As you live by faith, the righteousness of God in your spirit is revealed, just like the nature of the mustard seed is revealed as it is allowed to grow.

Any believer who does not live by faith will not let the righteousness of God deposited in his spirit to be revealed. He will be unfruitful. Remember that God's expectation is fruitfulness (John 15:16, Luke 8:4-8).

The righteousness that counts before God is the righteousness of God, not the righteousness of man. The righteousness of man is a result of man’s work in obeying laws, but the righteousness of God is the fruit produced when believers live by faith (walk in the Spirit). A believer who lives by faith obeys God's instructions, not because he thinks that they are the reason he is justified, he obeys them because he understands that he already has a relationship with God because of Christ Jesus. A child obeys his father not so that he can become his father's child but because he is already his father's child.

Go into today thanking God for the gift of His righteousness in your Spirit.
Prayer: Ask the Lord to help you live by faith and be fruitful.

The Mind that Overcomes

1 Peter 4:1-2 (NET) So, since Christ suffered in the flesh, you also arm yourselves with the same attitude, because the one who has suffered in the flesh has finished with sin, in that he spends the rest of his time on earth concerned about the will of God and not human desires.

After Rakesh accepted the Lord Jesus, he had a real struggle with his old habits of sin. At some point, it appeared as if it was impossible for him to overcome them because they had so much power over him. He loved the Lord, but he still found that his sins were so powerful that he started to think they were impossible to overcome, and grace covers them and gives allowance for a life dominated by the power of sin. But because he had walked in the communion of the Holy Spirit before, he knew he couldn't continue in the works of the flesh and be spiritually whole.

Rakesh got his freedom from the power of his sins when he read an article that helped him understand 1 Peter 4:1-2.

Apostle Peter walked closely with the Lord Jesus while Jesus walked the earth, he understood the mind and outlook of the Lord Jesus to life such that He lived a perfect sinless life. Peter understood that the only way the believer can live as Jesus did is if he has the same attitude to life that Jesus had. He saw first hand that for Jesus, pleasing the Father was more important than life itself. Jesus said things like 'if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off'(see Matthew 5:30). He saw how even though Jesus had the power to resist it, He was willing to die on the cross because that was the will of the Father. This mind that Jesus had is the only mind that has finished with sin.

Apostle Paul also had this outlook to life, that was why when a prophet told him that he was going to be persecuted if he went to Jerusalem to preach, that didn't change his mind one bit. For him, pleasing the father was more important than life itself (see Acts 21:10-14).

The default mind of every human being is 'I want to enjoy my life no matter what', but the mind that conquers the power of sin is one that says 'I want to live to please God, so if suffering in the flesh is what it takes, then so be it.'

The world teaches us to love our [flesh] lives, but Christ teaches us to deny it. The world teaches us to live for earthly pleasures, Christ teaches us to deny ourselves and live for a higher purpose (Luke 9:23).

Go into today remembering that we should arm ourselves with the same attitude that Jesus had. He was willing to give His life in order to do the will of the father.
